The Rajarhat police have arrested four individuals involved in a sophisticated land fraud scheme after a complaint was filed by Pradip Ghosh, a resident of Rajarhat Jagdishpur. Ghosh reported that his 21-katha ancestral plot, valued at approximately 2 crore rupees, had been illegally sold without his knowledge. On January 14, 2025, Ghosh approached the Rajarhat police station after discovering that his land had been sold to another individual during an attempt to process its mutation at the Rajarhat B.L.R.O. office.
Following the complaint, the police launched an investigation and arrested Anup Sahu, Shajahan Ali, Kaushik Mukherjee, and Babul Hossain. Sahu, Ali, and Mukherjee are residents of Rajarhat, while Hossain is from Polerhat, Bhangar. The investigation revealed that the accused had used forged documents, including Ghosh’s Aadhar card, PAN card, and other personal details, to impersonate him as the owner of the land. These fraudulent documents were then used to illegally transfer ownership and sell the property for 2 crore 12 lakh rupees.
The main accused, Mohammad Kurban, who posed as the legitimate owner, remains at large. According to police, further investigation into the case suggests that more individuals may be involved in the syndicate. The police are conducting searches to apprehend Kurban and expand the probe into the operation behind the land fraud. The four arrested suspects will be presented in Barasat court for legal proceedings, while the investigation continues to uncover additional members of the syndicate and the full extent of the forged documentation network.
